VIS
COMM II

SPRING 2023

Visual Communications II is simply an extension of Vis Comm I. In this class, students continue evolving their skills and software knowledge in terms of image creation.

Unlike Vis Comm I, this class was tied to our studio course. The first assignment was to create a site model showing the topography and to study at least one field condition on the site. I chose to study how water and other debris would flow on the site, so I poured wax on my model to show where the main streams would form.

After the physical model was created, we used rhino and grasshopper to create an image based off our physical model. My original image only included the water flow, but eventually evolved into showing the track as well. A script was written in grasshopper to highlight the apex of the track's turns, and to highlight the heaviest areas of water flow. Ultimately, this exercise helped determine the exact location of my building.

After the assignment was over, each student took their conceptual models from studio, placed them on their site models, and scanned them using a mobile point cloud software. Once each student had their point cloud, it was up to them to use the points, meshes, and wireframes to highlight their site.

Once each student had a design for studio, we were then tasked with rendering our projects strictly in photoshop or illustrator. The purpose of this assignment was to stay away from rendering software like Lumion, Enscape, or V-ray, and to focus on abstraction.
