Any student in Design IV has obtained their associates degree in architectural technology, and is now studying sustainability. With that in mind, Design IV is all about designing buildings with sustainable and passive techniques.

The first project was to create a futuristic home in Danby, VT. This project was to include a main house and two guest houses, and had an emphasis on passive design. The passiveness of this project is shown through building materials, shading devices, orientation, alternative energy methods, and access to solar light and heating during the day.

Moving from residential to commercial, the next 8-week project was to create a mid-rise building in Waterbury, CT. that would be used as a bank as well as an office building. The bank would be located on the first floor, the bank offices on the second floor, and office space for lease on floors 3-6. As this project also focused on passive techniques, many of the same strategies were used in addition to a green roof and low-e triple pane glazing systems. This project also showcased the building's skeleton with exposed structure throughout the building.

Shown to the right are the posters for both of these projects.
