Structures iI

SPRING 2023

Architectural Engineering II is all about the continuation of the skills we acquired in the first section of the class.

Throughout the course, students had two separate projects to complete. The first assignment was a group project to design an expansion of one of State College's high end residential buildings. Since the second-year undergrad students take this class as well, grad students were not allowed to work together. With my group of undergrad students, we designed a building that matched its existing sister structure and took advantage of its prime location on College Ave with sightlines and outdoor community spaces. Many of the images above were created by the bachelor's students while I handled most of the design and concept.

Like our Visual Communications class, the second assignment was tied to our studio project. Individually, each grad student was required to complete a detailed wall section and a load path diagram for their studio project. In addition to these diagrams, each structural member needed to be sized roughly according to their estimated loads.
