In the first design studio of grad school at Penn State, the focus revolved around the idea of defining threshold.

The first eight weeks were spent studying what a threshold is, and students chose existing examples on campus, then throughout the world to determine their own definition of a threshold.

After the research period, each student designed their own structure that acted as a threshold. The only program given included a water taxi station with a civic space of the student's choice and a connection to the Rachel Carson bridge. My design incorporated congregation spaces like a cafe and small music venue, and created an experiential bridge from the station to the RCB. In this design, the building acts as the foundation to the bridge, and the foundational point of the threshold within the site.
