SUTTON HOUSE ON SCHUYLKILL
SPRING 2022
For the final project of our undergraduate careers, students were given sixteen weeks to design their final capstone project. We could design whatever we wanted as long as it was commercial use, at least 50,000 sqft, and was a project that had a deeper meaning to us. Considering that I was a patient of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for most of my childhood, I decided to create a new high-rise tower for the families of CHOP's patients, acting as a home away from home while children are receiving care.

With this project, it was imperative to make this building feel more like a home than a hospital, and it was very important to help connect these families to the urban fabric of Philadelphia. To do this, I followed the concept of metamorphosis, focusing on transforming these families lives from one of the worst times of their lives to a much more comfortable and memorable experience. The new 27 story, 400 ft tall tower is home to 370,000 sqft. of a shopping mall open to the public, doctor's offices, a private gym, a private doctor's lounge and cafeteria, short-term rooms for families staying less than a week, long-term rooms for families that are forced to relocate, plenty of activity space for kids, and a sky lounge with an outdoor viewing deck 400 ft in the air.

Parking for the building is located entirely underground, and the site takes advantage of public open space and civic space to influence urban connection. The site is located adjacent to CHOP's newest structure as CHOP continues to grow year after year.
