GUGGENHEIM HELSINKI

FALL 2021

For the final project of Design Studio VI, students were given the individual task to design a Guggenheim Museum in Finland's Capital of Helsinki. Inspired by Finland's bioeconomic strategies and Nordic influences, the new museum would act as a gateway of art between the city and the sea.

To do this, I used action verbs like split, taper, overlap, and lift to create two separate masses connected by pedestrian bridges. This way, the space underneath the bridges would act as a "gateway element" between the city and the sea. The new Guggenheim is home to 50,000 sqft. of exhibit space, indoor and outdoor dining, a multi-story cafe, visitor services, a retail store, multi-purpose room, concert hall, and all of the necessary storage and operation areas needed for a museum.

As the site is located directly on the water, many outdoor areas were also incorporated into the design including but not limited to, outdoor exhibit spaces, gathering areas, plazas, dining, green space, and walking paths.
