Bohemian Hostel in barcelona
FALL 2021
For the first large project of senior year, students were to design a high-rise bohemian hostel within the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona with a team of two other classmates. With a concept of Geometric Deviation, we wanted our building to break from the rigidity of Barcelona with the arcuate forms of the Gothic Quarter.

To do this, we used the three actions verbs of Bend, Imbed, and Intersect to create a building that fit the orthogonal forms of Barcelona through a site view, but that fit with the curvilinear forms of the Gothic Quarter in elevation. With a 100 meter minimum height, the hostel is home to general circulation, service, and staff spaces, as well as 50 double rooms for travelers, plenty of lounging and activity space, a retail store, multiple places to eat, a rooftop bar, and even its own Spanish inspired garden.

As a group of three, we were required to narrow down our ideas into one, holistic approach, and we were required to learn to work together, regardless of conflicting schedules. In addition to the large amount of deliverables over the seven week duration, a detailed, physical model was also required. As a team, we split the work evenly, but all had a hand in each and every part of the design, development, and processing of this project
