SONGDO-DONG
SOUTH KOREA
THE AFFINITY
LIBRARY
SPRING 2021
For the first project of Design Studio V, students were given eight weeks to design a multi-story library in the up-and-coming smart city of Songdo-Dong, Incheon, South Korea. This smart library would soon be home to adult and children's libraries, a café, classrooms and study rooms, staff offices, services areas, and an auditorium.

The basement housed the building's service areas and a parking garage big enough for 70 vehicles. The first floor was made up of the main library and the café, while the second floor consisted of the children and young-adult areas, staff offices, classrooms, and even a makerspace. The third floor was arranged with the auditorium, conference rooms, and a roof-top deck that doubled as an outdoor reading area.

My goal for this project was to blend in to the new smart city. To do this, I created a futuristic, free-flowing structure while maintaining functionality and sustainability.

Above are a few images of my design solution and how I incorporated these elements.
