BEIRUT, LEBANON
REDEVELOPMENT OF BEIRUT CENTRAL DISTRICT
FALL 2020
In the summer of 2020, a massive explosion shut down Beirut for days. Less than a mile away from the site of the explosion was an area about one square mile that had previously been built up with a seawall. The area had not yet been too developed, but the few buildings that were in this area were poorly constructed and were wiped out from the explosion. For the final project of Sustainable Community Planning, students were to team up and redevelop this area as Beirut was in desperate need of revitalization.

My partner and I redeveloped the are with diverse housing opportunities, pedestrian only areas to prioritize pedestrian traffic, and mixed use buildings to maximize a comfortable density. We also incorporated LEED certified buildings, green roofs, pervious paving, downlights, and other sustainable features through the use of our infrastructure system.

Above are a few images of how all of this actually worked, and what the area could possibly look like
